Over the course of 30 years, Lonnie Graham has carried out ‘A Conversation with the World’ in more than 50 different countries in six continents. He interviews the people he meets concerning eight subjects—origins, family, life, death, values, tradition, connections and western culture—and photographs them. ‘A Conversation with the World’ is a simple question and answer exchange between the photographer and interviewees chosen at random. From a template of eight questions, interviewees voice their responses from their own distinctive cultural standpoint. From culture to culture, the responses are the same, outlining the same basic human needs.
