The Story

First edition of A View From The North by Denis Thorpe. First impression. Medium format softback in fine condition. Signed by the artist on the title page.

About

Born in 1932, Thorpe began his career at 14 as a junior journalist before moving into photojournalism. He spent over 22 years at The Guardian, where his work was often featured on the front page for its artistic composition rather than just news value.

He is widely regarded as one of Britain’s finest newspaper photographers, known for iconic images such as the often-requested view of Hebden Bridge.

This collection features images documenting life, landscape, and industry in the North of England and the British Isles from 1948 to the present day.
