About:

David Goldblatt: Fifty-One Years (2001) was a major retrospective exhibition and accompanying book documenting half a century of South African life by acclaimed photographer David Goldblatt. Covering 1948–1999, it features over 200 images analysing the society and apartheid era through a critical, often oblique gaze, highlighting daily life rather than sensationalism. Includes texts by J.M. Cooetzee, Corinne Diserens, Okwui Enwezor, Michael Godby, Nadine Gordimer, Chris Killip and Ivan Vladislavić.
