About From the Pope to a Flat White

From the Pope to a Flat White is an extensive documentation of the changes that Ireland has undergone in the past forty years. Martin Parr has been photographing Ireland for over four decades and capturing the dramatic shift. The images in the book show the transition from traditional rural life and the impact of religion, into a global, gentrified country. Parr documented the Pope's visit in 1979 in black and white photographs as well as different elements from rural life such as dances and horse fairs. Later on we start seeing the presence of modernity, culminating in gay weddings and start-up companies.
