About
Artist and publisher Andy Burgessâs latest monograph is an intimate and tactile book of Polaroids taken in the summer of 2025 whilst traveling in Japan. Focusing on Ginza, the high-end shopping and business district in the heart of Tokyo, this collection of soft mauve and lavender toned images is surprisingly poetic and painterly.
Known for its cutting-edge, modern buildings, Ginza is home to the flagship retail stores of many of the worldâs leading fashion brands such as Fendi, Hermes and Tiffany. Burgessâs soft focus and dream-like Polaroids reimagine these glass-clad temples to consumerism as glistening, light-reflective sculptures. Architectural images are accompanied by other quirkier and unexpected visual delights, cars and bikes covered in protective tarpaulins like Christo sculptures, and odd-shaped windows that suggest an altered and abstract way of interpreting the visual world.
