About
A fascinating photographic study of a particular period in twentieth-century Germany at the rise of the Nazi state. Translated from the German Herbert List: Fotografia Metafisica by Ingeborg von Zitzewitz.
From the introduction by Stephen Spender: "I first met Herbert List in Hamburg in 1929. Herbert was at that time the centre of a group of friends who represented for me all that was freest, most open-minded, most consciously new about the new Germany. They were the Children of the Sun. To them, far more important than politics, business, self-promotion, was 'life'. 'Life' consisted of friendship, free love, the cultivation of their own bodies, nature and the sun."
