The Story

Route 16 by Daido Moriyama

(2004)

First edition

Small format softcover in near fine condition. Some external markings on the protective (removable) acetate, and some minor shelf-ware on the cover's bottom edge.

About

This is a limited edition collection of snapshots around National Highway No. 16 that connects the metropolitan area in a ring, and Moriyama, located in the passenger seat, cuts out the car window. The side mirrors and windshield are incorporated to accentuate the composition, and the flow of light from the brake lights and lighting of the vehicle in front creates a sense of presence (driving feeling) in the tunnel. The roadside scenes such as the fence that seems to be Yokota Air Base, the high school girl in loose socks, and the show window are sharply projected.
