The Story

The Last Resort by Martin Parr. Second Dewi Lewis edition from 1998. Large format hardback in near fine condition. there is a soft bump to the corner of rear boards

About

The Last Resort collects images taken by Parr between 1983 and 1985 in the British  coast. Parr would visit the Liverpool beach resort in New Brighton and capture his surroundings, the queues of people outside the ice cream parlous, the children playing in the sand, elderly couples enjoying their cones of chips... His very characteristic use of saturated color and on-board flash illuminated a country in a state of decay, but still finding pleasure where it could. The deterioration of the British economy — and society as a whole — seemed to be writ large in the litter-strewn, concrete promenade of New Brighton.
